Teacher
Lucretia Lomax Alvarez began theatre at age five, ballet at age twelve, and choreographing in high school.
She danced with Longview Ballet Theatre and Fort Worth Ballet, then earned her BFA degree in ballet at the University of Utah.
After many years teaching and choreographing in Salt Lake City, she relocated to Austin. She danced with Austin Contemporary Ballet and became the owner of The Dance Studio and founding director of Dance Spectrum in NW Austin.
With the Dance Studio, she created a nurturing and supportive place for young dancers to grow and thrive. Lucretia developed the annual Young Choreographers’ Workshop, held annual summer intensives at her studio, and hosted many master workshops with teachers from coast-to-coast and abroad.
Lucretia taught at UT Austin’s Dept. of Theatre and Dance and was the first UT Summer Programs Coordinator for the American Ballet Theatre and the Radio City Rockettes summer intensives.
Since closing her studio, dance has remained one of her lifelong loves. Lucretia even met her husband Salsa dancing!
Besides ballet and dance productions, she also delights in choreographing theatrical and operetta productions including Pioneer Memorial Theatre (SLC), Gilbert & Sullivan Society (Austin), William Lewis and FAVA (Elgin), and Bastrop Opera House (Bastrop). She also entertains as Porketia Piggarina Sowvarez, a member of the Elgin Sowpremes.
Lucretia is very excited to join DAP and share her love of ballet with others.
